Appears in the following schemes

Flower development
Specification of flower meristems

Protein function

Encodes a MADS-box transcription factor.

Phenotype

Single mutant:
ag single mutant does not display any flower defects but produces more axillary inflorescences. [Kempin et al., 1995]

Multiple mutant:
ap1 ;cal ;ful multiple mutant does not flower. [Ferrü¾Œ–”¼ndiz et al., 2000]

Multiple mutant:
cal mutation dramatically enhance the flower developmental defects of ap1 single mutants: each flower meristem is converted into an infloresence meristem. [Kempin et al., 1995]

Function:
Probable transcription factor that promotes early floral meristem identity in synergy with APETALA1, FRUITFULL and LEAFY. Is required subsequently for the transition of an inflorescence meristem into a floral meristem. Seems to be partially redundant to the function of APETALA1. Positively regulates the APETALA1 and LEAFY expression. [Data from UniProt]
