Protein function
Encodes a histone H2A.Z variant protein.
Phenotype
Multiple mutant: hta9;
hta11 multiple mutant is early flowering under both SD and LD conditions.
[Coleman-Derr et al., 2012] Function:Variant histones H2A are synthesized throughout the cell cycle and are very different from classical S-phase regulated H2A. May replace conventional H2A in a subset of nucleosomes. Nucleosomes wrap and compact DNA into chromatin, limiting DNA accessibility to the cellular machineries which require DNA as a template. Histones thereby play a central role in transcription regulation, DNA repair, DNA replication and chromosomal stability. DNA accessibility is regulated via a complex set of post-translational modifications of histones, also called histone code, and nucleosome remodeling (By similarity).
