Appears in the following schemes

microRNA biosynthesis

Protein function

Encodes a member of the importin/exportin family.

Phenotype

Single mutant:
hst1 single mutant shows some morphological defects, including precocious transition from the juvenile to the adult phase and early flowering under both SD and LD conditions. ( hst1 single mutant has pleiotropic defects. The flowering-time phenotype of the single mutant is likely due to the precocious transitions from the juvenile to the adult phase.) [Bollman et al., 2003][Telfer et al., 1998]

Function:
Nucleocytoplasmic transporter involved in the nuclear export of microRNAs (miRNAs). Required for several miRNAs accumulation. Specifically required for miR156 accumulation which targets SPL3, SPL4 and SPL5 transcription factors. Involved in plant development through its role in miRNAs processing. Required for vegetative phase change and vegetative to reproductive phase transition. Functionally dependent on RAN1 binding. Does not seem to be involved in small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) processing. [Data from UniProt]
