General processes & autonomous pathway

Protein function

Encodes a type I arginine methyltransferase.

Phenotype

Single mutant:
prmt4a single mutant does not display any flowering-time phenotype. [Niu et al., 2008]

Remarks:
prmt4a;prmt4b multiple mutant has higher FLC expression levels and its flowering-time phenotype is FLC-dependent. [Niu et al., 2008]

Multiple mutant:
prmt4a;prmt4b multiple mutant is late flowering under both SD and LD conditions. [Niu et al., 2008]

Function:
Methylates (mono- and asymmetric dimethylation) the guanidino nitrogens of arginyl residues in several proteins involved in DNA packaging, transcription regulation, and mRNA stability. Recruited to promoters upon gene activation, methylates histone H3 and activates transcription via chromatin remodeling (By similarity). [Data from UniProt]
